Dudes Day: Vol. 10

In honor of my tenth post about Dudes Day I want to rehash some of the reasons and goals That have caused me to start documenting these days with my son.

My first reason is that when my son or his son/ daughter gets older , while I’m around or even after I’m gone I want him to be able to look back at these and know just what kind of a person I am. I, like many of you I am sure have no real good idea about what our grandfathers were like. We know what we remember or what someone has told us. This is unfortunate. I would love to read or see video of what my family was like when they were my age. I think we all would. I’ll tell you, this is what’s so great about this day and age we live in. This website has cost next to nothing and my family will have it forever.

This second reason is because I’m sick of the negativity in this world and I used to bitch and complain about it and then I decided to take my own advice. I want to do something about it. I truly believe that great kids have great parents. If I can influence even just one person to be better than I will have achieved my goal. I know, because of the comments and messages I have received that this has already happened even if for just one time for one second.

My goals are to give dads( and moms) some ideas about things to do with there children, but what has happened instead is some of you have noticed that it does not really have to be anything in particular. Just eating breakfast with my son one day a week has brought so much value to my life I couldn’t even begin to explain it. So please if you know anyone with kids that you think might benefit from my adventures with my son please share my site . Next week I will be trying a video version. My son does not necessarily behave well in front of a camera but we are gonna give it a shot. Real quick before I tell you about our day I just wanted to mention a private message I received from a reader. He told me he enjoyed reading these posts because it let him relive some of his childhood. This was so great to hear because I had never even thought of that as a reason to read my site. I just wanted to share that. Now the day.

Breakfast

My son slept in, he had been up kind of late the night before because we had gotten our basement recarpeted ( look for a post about our sh*t later) and he was absolutely in love with the space and of course the feel of the carpet. I had painted one of the walls in the living room after he went to bed. When he walked in the room he said ” woah that’s amazing ” I just laughed and pushed him along. I asked what he wanted to do today and surprisingly he had two things on the list today. 1. Waffle House- no problem 2. He wanted to go to the store and get ” the fruit snacks I had when I was 3 ” ok well we will figure it out I guess.  On the way to Waffle House my son asked where we were going I told him Waffle House he said ” no I told you the store to get fruit snacks” so we went to the store. I still have no idea what kind of fruit snacks he is talking about. I figured we would just look and he could get which ever ones he wanted. Well sure enough it was a brand that we used to buy when he was younger Motts to be exact. He was happy now. Next stop Waffle House. We went to our usual WH everyone recognized him.  He ate every bit of his food. The one difference this week was he didn’t even ask for his phone. We sat quietly talking and he  just watched everyone in the restaurant. I love this kid. I asked where he wanted to go next his only reply was “Home”. I think he is not feeling well.  That’s our exciting story for the week. I hope someone gets something out of it. Just remember all you have to do is be present.
