So needless to say I’ve had, an okay week it wasn’t too stressful but very busy. I was/ am very thankful that it is friday. I had a lot going on today and decided to pop into Taco Bell for a cheap and fast lunch. I went through the drive-thru as I always do and ordered exactly what I always order 1 chicken burrito and a medium Pepsi. The price for this is usually around 4-4.50 depending on the local tax for the exact location. When I got to the window the clerk says to me ” um ,sir everyone has been paying for the car behind them all day so what would you like to do?” I asked well, how much is the guy behind mes food? He says “20.13” I said no ,I’ll put my 4.50 towards theirs but no I will not be buying their 20 dollar Taco Bell lunch. The guy seriously copped an attitude with me. I’m usually all about this kind of pay it forward movement. I left feeling like I just let down my fellow Taco Bell brethren. I mean was this really going on all day and did I just end it. Shit all I wanted was lunch and I’ve spent the rest of the day pondering this moral dilemma. Oh and by the way he would not let me apply my money to the next guy because he couldn’t figure out how to do it. Let me know what you would have done.
Funny thing at lunch today
While I find those “pay it forward” stories heart warming, I often wonder how many of them are real. The experience you had today is inappropriate on so many levels! It’s nice of the employee to let you know you had been gifted with your lunch. But I don’t think you should even be put in the position of being asked if you wanted to pay it forward, let alone add that it had been going on all day, trying to guilt you into continuing. To expect someone whose bill is $4.50 to cover someone’s bill over $20 is wrong & the employee has no right to assume you’re even financially able to make that “gift”! And then to follow it all up with a bad attitude totally negates the whole pay-it-forward mindset! You just wandered in to get a quick/cheap lunch and came away questioning your own moral ethics! Doubt Taco Bell management would approve!

Weird! He should have just told you that the guy in front of you paid for your lunch and left it at that. If you wanted to pay for the guy behind you then you would let him know at that point. And as far as, he couldn’t figure out how to apply $4.50 to a guys $20 bill…. seriously?!?! 20 – 4.50 is too hard, huh? Sheesh!!!
P.S. love your blog! ❤️
