Organized Sh*t

I will catch you all up but first I want to explain something I’m writing these posts for two reasons: one is just to have a record of all the steps I have taken with the whole process and the second is to hopefully help somebody down the road deal with the same issue. I feel like there are too many of these things in life that no one did or could teach us about. I think it is helpful to just see how a regular person would deal with adversity.

Oh Sh*t

The Sh*t continues

A plan for our sh*t

I spoke with an attorney friend of mine about this problem and he confirmed that so far everything seems to be on the up and up. He just asked that before I sign anything to let him read it. I assured him I would. I’m glad I called him because even though it sounds like a pretty easy thing to do I had already signed an agreement with Servpro that I did not let him read. I have a feeling that signature will hurt more than any other, more about that later. I had a meeting with the MSD insurance adjuster this morning and again he seems like the fairest most honest one out of this whole ordeal. I’m having a hard time trusting him but its not because of his demeanor it has everything to do with his title. He assured me that they will have plenty of money to rebuild everything that was damaged and that the areas that were lacking would be made up somewhere else. We will see. As I pulled away from the house I thought this is probably the most confident I’ve felt since this whole thing started. The HVAC guy had gotten back to me with a price to replace the furnace and basically rebuild the Hot water heater on tuesday of next week. I’m taking it a little in the shorts here, but again we will see how the whole thing plays out. My last area of consternation is the hotel, I will have paid about 1000.00 dollars for the hotel before the whole thing is done. I will not get reimbursed for this until the whole project is complete. My wife and I had decided to rethink this plan. We have decided to stay with my family for the last 3 days of construction. Today is Friday and we have decided to put this stuff on the back burner for the weekend and try to enjoy the weekend.

MONDAY

I hit the ground running Monday. It had dawned on me that we would not get reimbursed until we had gone through and inventoried every item. Servpro had assured me that they would leave an aisle in the storage containers so that I could see every item. They did not, the Pods were stuffed full. I called Servpro and reminded them what they had told me. I could tell that they had no plan to accomplish this so I offered a solution. Since they had taken pictures of everything going into the container they could just give me the pictures and I could inventory off of those. This is when things got a little dicey with them. They quit returning my phone calls and were not at my house when they said they would be. I just kept on calling, over and over and over again, finally I got a call saying on Tuesday they would come over and remove every item and take a new photo so it was a little ” Clearer” now whether or not this was the truth I do not know. I honestly don’t care. The bottom line is that I was now happy. When I went over to the house on Monday and I was looking through pods I notice a large crack on the sidewalk in front of one of the storage containers. It was not hard to figure out that this is caused buy the actual storage container. Since I knew Servpro would be back on Tuesday I decided to take pictures and talk to them about it then. After I meet with them tomorrow I’ll update you on the rest of the story. Everything is starting to come together nicely now though.
