The Sh*t continues

My wife and I sent our son to her parents for the night so he would not have to smell or breathe any of the associated odors that come along with a basement that is filled with sh*t. We stared blankly at our basement that was filled with all of the stuff that a couple accumulates over nearly two decades of being together. We have know idea of what can be salvaged or not. We did what any worried couple with a pile of sh*t to deal with would do. We decided to go to bed.

When we woke up the next morning and realized it was not all just a dream I started developing a plan. First thing to do was call MSD and find out what exactly they would do. I spoke with them and they referred me to their insurance company. My immediate reaction was OH NO here we go. However their agent was very good I explained to him that Servpro wanted us to pay for remediation up front and that there was no way I could afford a 20,000 bill at this or any other time in my life. The insurance agent said tell them we have issued a “no limit “claim on your house and see if they don’t change their tune. So after getting off the phone with them I called Servpro back and boy did they change their mind real quick. They dispatched 2 project managers to my house within the next two hours. They walked through the basement and kind of told me what would get cleaned and what would get thrown away. Most of the things I had expected like the couches and the carpet, but what I didn’t realize was the toys. They said we should not clean any toys because of the safety factor. I think this hit me the hardest. I just moved my sons toy room downstairs so I had all of his Christmas and birthday gifts down there. It’s all going. You know my stuff is one thing but my sons santa gifts that he got three months ago? This really sucks. The Servpro people devised a plan which was basically they would put 2 pods in my driveway 1 for cleanable items and 1 for un salvageable items. After they had left I called the MSD insurance guy and informed him that he would be putting us up in a hotel until the furnace and hot water heater were functional again. He agreed. I’ll continue the story tomorrow. I’m not looking forward to living with the family in a hotel for the next week or so.
